North Jersey Shipping Companies are accused of fixing prices

At least a dozen major shipping companies based in New Jersey are accused of fixing prices for shipping cars around the globe. According to the lawsuit prices were a flat rate from 2001 to 2006, but increased by 23 percent due to collusion. Since 2008 there has been an increase of demand for car shipping which should decrease prices, however the shipping companies created an artificial shortage of ships by sailing more slowly, thereby reducing the amount of ships available.
